Windy Day

Today was a very windy day. When we went to sleep last night at about 5 am, we could hear the window rattle the chimney in the kitchen. The fan was moving by itself because of all the wind outside the house. Kitty and Ryan play when Kitty has his energy spurts. He wants to be chased and he wants to be attacked, and then he attacks our feet. And he loves playing peek a boo. So we are hiding behind the kitchen counter, peering over it slyly at him. And he is looking back with his big, crazy eyes. [He has crazy eyes when he is playing]. Then abruptly he climbs over the couch, so his hind feet are on the couch and his fore feet are on the counter and has a look that says 'I caught you!'. He is very cute!

This morning we woke up at about 2 pm [because we slept at 5 am last night]. It was still windy outside, and the wind came in through the bedroom window and made it chilly, so I wanted to cuddle more inside the blanket. I slept for a lot longer than Ryan. Then we went for a walk in the woods. We went through the woods, then walked on the railway tracks. They replaced some rails on the railway track, so the old ones are just lying to the sides. Perhaps they will move them later. There were also iron hooks lying all over the tracks. We saw some kids collect them. There were four of them and we were undecided if they were college students or high school students. A train came by, and we went down the hill into some more woods which were sparser and had streams flowing through it. Some of the water made a stagnant pool. We crossed several streams perilously. Then we went over another hill, to see what lay around. It was at a higher point and would give us a good view of the area. But it turned out to be somebody's house and we went back down the hill. That also explained an abandoned well we saw, it was probably in somebody's backyard. Or maybe it was not a well. It was a structure covered with black tarpaulin and had heavy tires at the periphery as if to hold the tarp down. We sat by a stream, where Ryan was busy playing with the water, and I was getting pictures. It reminded me of the time in Matheran (India), where we both sat by a water body quietly. Ryan picked up a sharp, flat stone and we walked back towards the railway tracks.

On a tree there, by the great fallen pine branch, Ryan pulled out his knife and wrote "RS". The R and S have sharp corners. Then he used the flat stone to make it bolder. This was the reason he had picked up the stone, he said. It made me so happy. It is such a cute thing to do :) The traditional couple thing like the carnival, I suppose!

Then we started to tight-rope walk over the fallen pine branch that rose from the ground, and went all the way to the edge of the the tracks that are on a hill. It got too dangerous for me, because I am the kind that loses her balance in anticipation of losing her balance. But Ryan firm foot, could stroll across to the end. He came back to walk me back to firm ground from my mid way position on the branch, one leg on either side, and made sure he got some pictures. I climbed up the hill real quick and got pictures of him walking over the tree branch like a 'Dangerous Boy' that he is!

We then walked back home. Then Ryan read me Lord of the Rings :) We wished we had remembered to take the book with us, so we could have read it in the woods. We also had our oatmeal with raisins and dates in it. Then we got back to work. I planted our herbs and vegetables today. In little mud pots that I got from the Hadley Garden Store yesterday. And also the sprouts that I had been working on. So we have these vegetables/herbs planted now: Cumin, fenugreek, squash, watermelon, garlic and catnip! I left the watering can outside so we can water them on our way to school and just whenever we can. I hope they all grow well!
