Perfect Sunday

We have started taking Kitty outside the house on a leash. Not that he walks with a leash on, like a dog. He crouches. Then he gets up and crouch-runs a few feet, before he crouches again. Then when you feel all comfortable that he is not going to escape and run off on to the busy street, he pulls a Houdini on us. Kitty is on the leash. Blink. Kitty is not. We actually watched him do it the first time. He did some funny turn and twist thing, and then he was off the leash. He lets us stay around and watch him though. Until yesterday when I swear it must have been 90F and much hotter than Bombay, he pulled the Houdini, acted all innocent and darted into thorny raspberry bushes. He surfaced a few moments later in the neighbors yard - doing what? Watching birds that were chirping their heads off in alarm. When we tried to grab him he hissed like a feral cat and ran into the neighbors thorn bushes. So here we are in the neighbors backyard trying to grab our crazy, hissing, near feral cat, sweating profusely with scratched legs due to the thorn bushes and scratched arms thanks to Kitty. I ran home got some treats and a towel (in two expeditions through the thorn bushes in tiny shorts and canvas shoes), and then when Kitty sees the treats, he emerges from the bushes, seeds stuck comically on his head and tries to eat the treats. He is so excited that they keep dropping from his mouth. Ryan swiftly grabs him with the aid of a towel and carries him home. Kitty is upset, but once home, lies on the cool floor in the airconditioning that Ryan had started for Kitty, before we went out. (How nice of Ryan!), walks to his "area", eats some dry food, drinks some water, grooms himself, gets checked for ticks by Ryan and sleeps like an angel-cat, quite different from the ferocious feral cat he pretended to be outside. Ryan gets working on his thesis. I start working on the laundry. Later we ate some Indian snack we got from the Indian store last week. We walked out again to see if there was any poison ivy around the raspberry bushes, because I have a small blister in between my fingers. Then we hear the rain actually come towards us. Intimidating. We ran towards the house and stood on the porch and watched the rain. We could hear it when there were no cars on the street. Perfect Sunday. I love Ryan and Kitty so very much <3
