Emancipation

How amazing is it, to break away from meaningless tradition. Meaningful tradition is worth holding on to with every last ounce of strength. Meaningless tradition, worthless, dead weight, a burden to be carried from one generation to the next, more confusing with each generation it traverses. Until you follow it back all the way and see why it was established to begin with, a moment of realization, a glimmer like a spiders web in the sunshine, and then traverse forward through time to see why it lost its meaning. Eventually laid to rest in the light of reason, in the realm of conscious thought, buried in the sands of time, not with hatred or contempt, but with care, with a silent prayer, a final pat on the dirt and a flower in its memory. A sigh of relief, like a cool wind on a warm summer day, in the realization that my daughter, and her daughter shall never be subject to it. Generations of emancipation. Like a brilliant sunrise imagined on a dark winter night. My grandmothers smile at me, from many worlds away, I am certain of that.
